If it is below 20℉ outside, your pet(s) may not spend the whole visit time outside. This will be judged on an individual basis. If your pet(s) is too cold and needs to come in early, the rest of the visit time will be spent on indoor play. If it is below 15 degrees, your pet(s) will be taken outside briefly to go potty and then right back inside for indoor play.
Out 'n About Pet Service uses the heat index and the “seven-second test” to determine if it is safe for your pet(s) to be outside for their entire visit time. The safety of the conditions will be judged on an individual basis; young, overweight, or elderly pets, as well as those with short muzzles or thick or dark coats are at most risk for overheating. The heat index takes into consideration the temperature as well as the humidity. Due to the way pets cool themselves, if the humidity is too high, they will be unable to cool themselves and their temperatures will rise to dangerous levels, quickly.
The “seven-second test” is a method to gauge if the sidewalk/street is too hot for paws and may cause burns. This involves resting the back of one’s hand on the ground, if your hand can’t stand the heat for 7 seconds, it’s too hot for paws to walk on. If the sidewalks/street are too hot, this does not necessarily mean no walk. If the heat index is still safe AND there is grass to walk on instead of sidewalk/street, your pet(s) will still get a walk.
If the area is experiencing harsh weather conditions such as rain, snow, ice, hail, lightning strong winds, or fog and Out 'n About Pet Service judge the conditions to be unsafe for prolonged outdoor time, your pet(s) will be taken out to go potty and spend the rest of the visit time with inside play. The safety and well-being of your pet(s) is the priority and if conditions are unsafe or causing low visibility Out 'n About Pet Service will keep them inside.
